Courier/Delivery companies
|
Going to be sending a lot of parcels and containers out soon, none huge, as part of a new venture. Other than the obvious Royal Mail/parcel force can anyone recommend any?

Yodel are piss poor, but Hermes are an utter fucking disaster. I use the parcel2go website and generally stuff with DHL, UPS etc is much the same price.

Very happy with deliveries from Hermes but someone I know who worked for them didn't have a good word. Yodel are crap and I wouldn't trust them.

I run a small business and use UK Mail. I do send heavy 25kg parcels through their network. They have been reliable this year certainly.
What does piss me off about them is when they send there template letter every year saying how they have grown the business, handled record volumes, investing £10 million in a state of the art hub...... and right at the bottom we are changing your tariff and an increase of 3% is essential.
With the fuel prices remaining low and having record volumes it pisses me off because as a small business I am trying to grow my customer base and don't want to keep hitting my customers with increases.
They seem to give you a really good starting price and then if the volume isn't there, it's price increases every year. If you speak to the sales rep all you get is "this isn't the business we are looking to do anymore."
Basically all they ideally want to move is jewellery boxes. Light items that don't weigh anything.
I would either go for UK Mail (better the devil you know) or an APC Depot Network member.

More than once making no effort to deliver when I was definitely at home and the door buzzer is as loud as the crack of doom, suspect if running late they just stick a card through the door and drive off. They were in the news for damaging ceramic poppies from the Tower of London. One guy's CCTV caught them lobbing the box over the gate.

Yodel fucked up big time a couple of years ago at xmas i think?
Clinton Cards was one of there clients and they sent too much volume through their network. Which had a knock on effect.
Not sure what they are like now.

If you want parcel left in a dustbin, IF YOU'RE LUCKY, then go ahead and use Yodel, most of the time, they say it's delivered when it hasn't

This is no word of a lie.
I was waiting at my flat for a parcel to be delivered by Yodel, had been all week as I was WFH.
Each day I'd phone them and each day they'd say the driver said he couldn't get access to the property - all he had to do was dial my flat number on the intercom. I even took to sitting outside for half hour during the hour window they gave me.
On the fourth day I was on the phone having a pop, when the girl said he'd just left the previous delivery and was therefore on his way.
I kept her on the phone for a couple of minutes and lo and behold a Yodel can drive past my flat - I can see the road from the flat - didn't stop mind. Told her I'd seen a van go by.
I rung off, phoned back ten mins later and she said he'd updated his PDA saying he couldn't get access to the property again.
Told her it was no surprise he couldn't if he didn't stop. Complained again so she said she'd have him there within half hour.
He showed up with a right attitude because he'd been caught out being a cunt. Fucking prick. Spoke to a bird I knew a few floors down and she'd had similar and went to the depot near Bristol in the end.
Utter cunts.
